Inspiration: Luna is awesome, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book in the series. When promo pics for the movie started popping up on the internet, I was instantly drawn to the outfit Luna wears when she, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, and Ginny go to the Department of Mysteries. I wore this costume 3 times: the Order of the Phoenix midnight movie premiere, while volunteering at Oak Park Illinois's Countdown to Midnight festival celebrating the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and to Geek.kon, a start-up anime/sci-fi/fantasy convention on the University of Wisconsin Campus. I was honored with Best in Show at Geek.kon for craftsmanship and performance in a group skit along with Lauren/Troppy (as Charlotte from Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin) and Ashley/Ashirichan (as Selphie from FFVII).
Favorite Aspect: I love so much about this costume, but I'm really fond of my pants. Those are from scratch, start to finish--I started out with plain maroon stretch twill and ended with some sweet capris with flowers stamped all over. Oh, and I won my first ever cosplay award while wearing it. <3
Least Favorite Aspect: The wig is beautiful, but an absolute beast to wear. That + long-sleeve shirt + synthetic-yarn sweater = sweat city.
Easiest Task: I guess making my cork necklace. It was time-consuming to string a zillion seed beads, but definitely mindlessly easy.
Hardest Task: I had a terrible time trying to figure out how to make my radish earrings, but I think they turned out pretty awesome in the end.
